I have a ball python about 3ft in length kept in a 30x48x17 mesh vison cage. I have a temperature gradient of 68-83. I think this might be a tad cold, any thoughts?? Should I change to a glass cage or should I just add a second heat lamp to increase the temp. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

So, you have a ball python in a 100 gallon mesh lizard cage. Your temps are definitely off and who knows what your humidity is. First off, mesh cages are not recommended for snakes. You need to either get a rubbermaid box or glass tank. With these you'll be able to control heat and humidity as well as drafts much better. I use a 71qt. rubbermaid but some people like 30 long glass tanks. Height is not as important as lenght and width for enclosures. Be sure to get a UTH and rheostat or thermostat as well as humidity and temp gauges. Temps should be: cool side 78-80 degrees, warm side 90-95 degrees, humidity 45-60%, and ambient 78-80 degrees. Keep asking questions, it'll only get better.
