freeroam setup doing good for my veiled?

lowdowns10 Jan 05, 2004 10:38 AM

I got the chameleon pair package off of lllreptile.com and they said they would live in the repatarium for probally about 6 months before they became aggressive towards one another. well the female was very mean and really scares the male so I bought a fiscus tree and set him up an open cage on a table in my room. I put a feeder cup at the base of the tree. A light clamped on to my dresser provides plenty of heat. He is however a grayish green color with shocks of darker green running over his body, is he over stressed? He seems to operate just fine he goes to sleep when he sees its dark outside and doestn seem to mind me moving around, he eats just fine. Im just not sure

Your best move would be to get him a cage.
People house them in many ways. Free roaming in my opinion (my opinion only) is not good. You can't control where it goes or decides to drop off and become a meal, get stepped on, etc; Yes it sometimes looks nice It's easier to mist, feed, and monitor when in an enclosed set up.
These are my opinions only as opinion varies..
Good Luck..

i agree...free-roaming sounds more like "haphazzard" to me, un-organized and an accident waiting to happen...the light clamped to a dresser sounds a bit scary

Free roaming is usually ok (even though we only do it if absolutely necessary) as long as you are willing to provide a room with a door so other animals cannot get in...you may also have to search a little bit for you reptile friend if he decides to venture far from the tree.

The are usually very easy to find...the go straight up as high as they can go...

As far as the color...there is proably not enough light in the room. Our chams were going the same color until we bought a 48" fixture and lit them up...now they are bright green!

umm if u plan on breeding those chameleons dont!

lll reptile doesn not exactly beleive in non- inbreading;; so if u end up breeding those two (sister and brother) serious problems coudl occur with the offspring!

may u be forwared!!!

u should have a basknig light for each if u are gonig to house them together and a feeding cup for both.

another cage would def. be best!

Hope this helps!
