tank size

StinaUIUC Jan 05, 2004 11:57 AM

I'm soon going to have 1.3 leos, and would like to know the minimum size tank needed for them to all be happy (lots of hides of course!). The male would not be in there all year, but I need to know for when he is!

If you have the room. Put them all in different 10Gallon tanks. That's what I'm doing (except with my female that's in a 20L because she's laying and I don't want to mess her up, because the 1.1 were together all year, but he was stressing her and I've found this to be the best alternative). I have a few females in the same tanks for now, until I can get some racks built so that I can put the 10G on something.

Some breeders use Rubbermaid containers, but I just like to look through the side of the glass and watch them, yeah, I'm weird. Lol

I like watching them too...lol separate tens really isn't an option...there just isn't enough room in my apartment at school. I have a 10 that I can house the male in when he's not with the females, but I really don't think I have the room for 3 others...plus whatever I'm going to have for babies (assuming I get some this year...lol)

Haha, then use a 20L for the females. And a 10G for the male. And whenever you want them to breed, throw (gently throw, lol) the male into the 20L and let them go at it..lol

lol...great, I wasn't sure if I could get away with a 20 or not! Hopefully whatever male I end up with will be friendly enough for me not to throw (however gently that would be...lol)! One of my current females has tried to bite me several times!

I think that males are extremely more tame than females. My gravid female now, when caught off guard, she runs as fast as she can. My male couldn't care if I picked him up by his tail. If he was a cat, he'd purr, lol. Although, sometimes, I do piss him off and he "barks" at me, lol.
