4 basic questions.

novice123 Jan 05, 2004 12:22 PM

I have some questions about dart frogs. I am considering buying auratus for a 20 gallon.

1) Do you need to provide them with a water dish? I always assumed I would need to but I never have specifically read that they need one.

2) How many fruit flies does a froglet eat and of how many times a day?

3) How many times a day should I mist the tank?

4) Screen top or glass top?

*I have read many of the messages on the forum, but can't find answers to all my questions. The search function is very hit or miss and time consuming. Thanks for the help

i provide my froggies with a small shallow dish, they often sit in there for hours!

2) How many fruit flies does a froglet eat and of how many times a day?

froglet about 6 - 12 FF's per day
double that for adults.

if i were you id add food, if its all gone the next day, add more, if theres loads left, add less. if youve gone mad and added 3 billion flies, dont feed at all untill there arent many lift. - common sense feeding

3) How many times a day should I mist the tank?

3-4 times per week just keep it humid, spraying isnt always needed that ofter.

4) Screen top or glass top?

IN MY OPINION 20%scree,80%glass

hope this helps

Thanks Jono,

I just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t underfeed the frogs. As silly as it sounds, I was hoping to mist the tank more often. I always like doing maintenance.

How do you combine screen and glass tops? If I am using an aquarium lid top, should I replace the back plastic with screen?

you may not need to make a screen part on it although it does help a little for air circulation. see how humid the area you will be keeping them in is, if its pretty humid i'd say a part sreen top would be good but if its in a dry room use the all glass top. i like to stick with all glass top to keep it humid as possble but i guess its all up to you good luck
