New jackson babies!!!!!

frogge99 Jun 04, 2003 07:08 PM

Well, I bought two females to go with my male a few months ago. I was told that they could possibly be gravid but over the months neither has filled out any more than when I got them. Well, I get a phone call from my youngest daughter, all excited, telling me that "little one"its name) was having babies. She had 10 total that we found but 4 of them were about half the size of the other 6. They did not survive. Could they have been premature. The others are doing fine. I was not prepared for babies but I have ordered fruit flies and pinhead crickets. Should be here Friday. I thought I read that they usually won't eat for a few days, is that correct. IF not I will have to send my Hubby off somewhere to get fruit flies or something tiny. Thanks for any info anyone can give me. I will hopefully be able to post pics some day soon.

I have plans to breed Jax when we move to a bigger place. We certainly have a handsome guy already I used to work in a genetics lab so the fruit fly rearing should fit into our menagerie well Post pics and keep us updated!

don't mean to scare you, but you need those fly cultures like YESTERDAY!!! They take a while to produce, don't let your babies starve waiting for production to kick in.
Yes, it's true that baby jax don't eat for the first 3 days, but they were born yesterday, and Friday will be 3 days. I don't think your fly culture will be producing anything upon arrival, and pinhead crix go FAST! Your babies will need lots of little prey items to eat.
Just my opinion.
