All worm diet?

Joebob Jan 05, 2004 02:30 PM

My beardie is about 1.5 years old now, and she doesn't go for crickets anymore. Should I try an all-worm diet? (she goes after worms like she used to go after crickets) If yes, what kind of worm is the best to feed as a staple, and should I keep supplying the same amount of vegetables as before?

Thanks

an all veggie diet is very healthy, just watch the animals weight. if you want to feed live, use silkworms and/or roaches, but the older a Beardie gets the less animal protien they should have.

Once a dragon is 12 months old or older, you really don't need to feed insects that often anymore, just a couple times a week. Mixed greens should be offered every day with silkworms, butterworms, hornworms or just regular crickets 2-3 times a week. If you have a female you are going to breed, more worms/crickets can be offered to help keep her weight up during the breeding season. Keep in mind that non bred females can still produce infertile eggs so keep an eye on her and suppliment with calcium a few times a week if you suspect she is carrying or has laid infertile eggs.

If by all worm diet you mean just replacing crickets and still giving the same amount of vegetables is ok but the only worm you could really use as a staple is silkworms so anything besides them should only be a treat.
