My New Iguana A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS

BigLizard Jan 05, 2004 04:39 PM

HELLO,
MY FRIEND JUST GAVE ME HIS IGUANA THAT HE HAS HAD FOR ONLY 2 MONTHS. I WAS WOUNDERING IF SOMEONE COULD TELL BY THE PIC IF IT IS MALE OR FEMALE, AND ABOUT HOW OLD IT IS. It IS 5 1/2 FEET LONG.

ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST FOOD TO GIVE IT THAT WILL HELP HIM PUT ON A LITTLE WEIGHT.

THANKS,
BIG LIZARD

Judging by the large jowels (cheeks) it looks like a male...does he have large femoral pores under his rear thighs...or a hemipenal bulge at the base of the tail? these indicate male...He looks nice...please feed him mixed greens (collards, mustard, chicory, dandelion etc) and mix in green beans, squash, etc minimal fruit...never dog, cat food or dry ig food...keep his temps optimum at 90 to 95 basking and low to mid 80s ambient and proper UVB lighting....good luck...he is a beauty...Lyn

Yeah, I think that's definitely a male iguana. like the person before me said...... just feed him mixed greens. not lettuce, that has no nutritional value. more greens than fruit. and sometimes i give my iguana afternoon snacks of just carrots, zuchini, apples, whatever I have in the fridge. Good Luck with him, he looks awesome!

Depends on how old he is...could be at full length right now,,,may stretch a tad bigger....from this side of "him" it looks a little feminine...maybe its just me? oh well good luck...keep him/her warm and fed properly Get a copy of Iguanas for Dummies by Melissa Kaplan...great Ig info....Lyn
