Pacman question

RyanRocker Jan 05, 2004 05:16 PM

I got a new 10 gal tank for my pacman with some eco-earth for bedding. I got a heat lamp that rests on top of the tank for warmth. I got a half log that he can go under for shade, and a nice big water dish, along with a plant. I know pacmans bury themselves, but he never used to bury himself for this long. He stays buring all the time and comes out late at night or the early morning. I thought these were daytime frogs? Could it be the lamp is too hot for him so he stays buried? I appreciate any help.

Definately pacmans don't like that much light they need some what subdued lighting. too the achieve the heat use a under the tank heating pad.

I have been told from this site to use the lamp instead of a heating pad.

I've heard the same thing, as they supposedly burrow to escape the heat. I had a heat pad under my girl's tank, but she never hung out in that area, so I finally removed it. I just keep her at room temp (around 74).

I use a standard old 40watt and a 25watt incadescant bulbs you buy at the store placed in heating lamps ontop of the cage.

I have a 5 gallon long and the 40watt goes on that and I have a 2.5 gallon that uses the 25watt bulb.

Becareful not to use to much heat. They only require temps of around 80degrees and to much higher then that might cause them harm. I see alot of people keeping their pacmans at room temp at around 75 which seems to work for them, but i would shoot for the 80degrees as best I can. Mine get a temp of directly under the light of about 82 or 83 and then it branches off as they go away from the light.

At night they get room temps fo around 75.

Also, they wont really use the log to hid under. They will simply bury themselves in the substrate to feel safe. So make sure there is enough in there for them to hid under.
