How cold is safe to ship UPS next day?

Bill S. Jan 05, 2004 05:34 PM

Hello.

I want to get a baby boa from California but here in NJ it's supposed to be in the 20s during the day and teens to single digits at night for the next two weeks or so.

I would imagine that even with heat packs this is way too cold in my area to take a chance on UPS next day from California, correct?

Thanks!

Bill

Risky at those temps unless packaged perfectly! and still you pray for no goofs..

Unless you are shipping BLIZZARD boas, of course.

LOL!

Hi.

I believe Delta is an option. But since this is one baby boa I think I'll wait to see if the weather changes in the next few weeks. I certainly don't want to risk UPS shipping into these temps.

Thanks!

Bill

Hi------If it were me I would wait till spring to have something shipped. Not that it cant be done safely, but if something goes wrong (delay) not good. My experiance this fall. A friend and I had some adult and hatchling Solomon Island Ground Boas shipped to Nebraska from out east. The shipping got screwed up out east and the snakes sat all weekend in a warehouse. The overnight turned into four days of 30 to 40 degrees temps. And well, there wasnt a happy ending, yet. We lost one adult and some of the babies. The shipper, thank are lucky stars felt part to blame so he replaced what we lost. I wonder how often that happens!! All the replacements showed up on time and healthy!. I guess what I'm saying is our best preperations and plans can go wrong. Randy
