Hey Justin. Thinking about getting more tegus already? I didn't wait long before I got a second one hehe. They are both in an 8' by 4' cage. Sometimes I have a hard time trying to distract Taz from trying to breed with Jazz lately. I haven't seen her comply yet but I wouldn't be surprised if something happened when I wasn't looking. I don't know much about their breeding habits. I think I've read that breeding might be more likely if you hibernate them. I don't know about the female making a nest and if you have to move the male out when she does that... I'm hoping someone else will post and tell us how that all works.
1.1 in a 4x8 cage is sufficient. Cage size plays a much smaller role than heat/food does with reproduction.
Tegus will breed with/without hibernation provided they are kept well-fed and allowed to stay warm enough. The exact timing is somewhat variable as I have had Tegus breed and become gravid within a 3-5 month window.
Female tegus do build nests with the cage substrate and defend it from all intruders...even the male. I personally seperate the gravid females from the males to make sure no major injuries occur due to fighting/defending nature of nesting females.
If your tegus are kept at optimal conditions(110-120F basking site, ambient temps of 80F or so and fed a high quality diet) they should breed.

at what age do they start breeding? thanks, justin
Age plays less of a role then size. 32" or so is breeding size for red/b&w tegus and I have had blues breed at as small as 30".
