Dart Frog Compatibility

sahoyaref Jan 05, 2004 08:48 PM

Are D.azureus and D.lehmanni compatible? My tank is an 85 gallon long, 48x18x22 inches, the last measurement being the height. What would be the ideal male/female ratios of each species? Is one of these too territorial to keep with the other? How about D. auratus, the green colour morph? Also, if I were to breed these frogs, are there any specific plants (besides bromeliads) or water features I would need? I'm going to have a waterfall (just a trickle, not a gush) running into a small pool, out of which will flow a stream. I'm also going to have a seperate pool, which I know should be shallow. Do any of these frogs need little caves or huts?

You are a beginner I guess by the message, the only people that mix successfully (usually) are people that have been keeping these frogs for a long time and know what they are doing. Generally the rule of thumb would be do dendrobates with dendrobates. About lehmanni, good luck finding some, there are a few places but very high prices and should only be reserved for breeders to help enrich the hobby. I would pick one specie for your tank, I got auratus first and now I know I would have preferred a different frog, azureus are a lot more bold than my auratus. Just pick what you want, but go with one species.
