Need some help, advice, thoughts or Ideas with MTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARKON Jan 05, 2004 11:20 PM

I have an almost 10 month old MTS that has not gone to the bathroom {#2} in what may be a month or longer. Last time she did it was a very small amount, not the normal. I do have a vet visit for thursday, but was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did. I have older MTS that dont go to the bathroom for a few weeks sometimes but never a really big deal.
The reason I am concerned with this one is I noticed the other day that she was crouched in a hunch like position almost straining to push something out and nothing but urine and the white calcium ball came out accompanied by air and noise, not the usual splat sound. This is the second time I have observed this in the past few days!! She is a third generation CBB so I know it is not a parisite thing for her parents and grandparents are clean as are the rest of my colonies. There is nothing in her enclosure that she could have eaten that would have caused an impaction either.
She is alert and doing her usual roaming around and exploring and seems to be fine( with the bathroom exception), I know she is not dehydrated because I see her drink from her water bowl at night and when I spray down the cage and she has also been eating the normal amount. Her temps and humidity are constant as well as her light cycle. I also have been soaking her in luke warm water the past couple days in the hopes that would help, usually as soon as one of my adults or other young are sprayed or even soaked they immediatley go to the bathroom. I am really bafffled here as to what may or may not be going on!!
Any opinions, thoughts or Ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
MTS often practice coprophagy, or eating of their own or others feces. It is possible that it may just be "recycling" its waste, but I doubt it would do it so much. The fact that your skinks don't go #2, as you put it, for weeks at a time should be cause for concern. In my experience MTS go rather regularly. It may be possible they don't have a proper diet. Since you have a third generation, I may be wrong about the diet. I hope this helps, jrbl
