Need Gecko help

RedQuake Jun 04, 2003 07:50 PM

My male leopard gecko has lost some weight. He gets into moods where he won't eat then a few days later he's going after crickets like crazy, but today i found partically digested crickets. He's still drinking and when i cleaned out his tank he ran around. I decided to move him to another smaller tank for quarentene and so i can completely clean out his 20gal tank. In the process of putting in fresh water in the 10gal i caught him watching me intently. What i have noticed is that the crickets he didn't digest were a bit bigger than what i usually give him. What really upsets me is that only 2 days ago he was eating, now he's not AND i can suddenly see his hip bones. His eyes are clear, theres no discharge from anywhere, right now he's alert (and upset i imagine from being moved),he did have a regular bowel movement today, and he's still drinking. If i don't see any improvement in a day or so i'll take him to a vet but until then does anyone have any input? Anyone got any idea as to why he would skip eating for days then gorge himself?
Any help is greatly appreciated

They just act like that from time to time. He probally more than likely regurgeitated the crickets because he ate too much. Don't worry my adults only eat every 2 days or so often enouph that I don't even bother feeding every day anymore.

Thankyou so much He seems to be happy in the new cage. Currently he's sitting on top of a cave soaking in the warmth from the lamp. I guess i'm really concerned about him cause in the picture gallery a pic was posted of a gecko hatched the same month that i bought my guy. That gecko was huge, with alot of weight on it. Mine still is rather skinny, despite gorging every few days. If i make any move towards the tank, he gets into this bull dog stance, puffs out the skin under his chin and looks at me as if to say "leave me alone". The baby crested gecko i bought last week has taken to me more so than my leo. It has even taken crickets from my hand. I don't know why my leo is so defensive. Thanks for your responce I do feel better

young geckos act like that alot till they get used to you. It will take a little time to them you are a big creature going to eat them. A little handleing every day and he will be fine just don't handle too much at first it causes stress till they calm down. 5 to 10 minutes a day for a few weeks should do it.
