Calcium Supplements...

tiliquagirl Jan 06, 2004 01:09 AM

I need to buy some more calcium for my BTS and I can't find any except for a bottle of vitamin spray. Apart from the vitamins it has CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE and CALCIUM CARBONATE in it. Does anyone know if this is the same as the normal reptile calcium supplement?

CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE= Vitamin B-5
CALCIUM CARBONATE= The normal form calcium comes in for supplementation. Usually vitamin supplements do not have enough calcium, especially since they are used once a wek and calcium should be supplemented more often.

A good calcium source is crashed eggshell. Dry the shell of cooked eggs and break it into little (1-3 mm)pices. Offer it separately or add it to the diet.

It is made by coral polyps in the ocean it is what is made in the body by vertebrates, hence the calcium carbonate that makes up the eggshell in the first place.

In Nature Blue Tongues get Calcium from the shells of snails they eat. Since it is difficult to acquire parasite free snails I recommend Mineral I, TriCal, or RepCal. These supplements will also give other minerals to the diet. Egg shells can run the risk of Salmonella.
