Question re sexing death adders?

Bob H Jan 06, 2004 06:41 AM

I have two three year old cb death adders and both probe only 2-3 sub-caudal scales. I guess females but would like some support! Thanks in advance for you help!

1/ You are right.
2/ Males are also easily sexed as adults by the fact that their tails are much larger and thicker.
3/ The same applies for most if not all other Australian elapids.
4/ Good photos showing tails of both sexes are in my book "Australian Reptiles and Frogs".

See the photo here of mating Death Adders and note the larger tail in the male on top.
