Dirt question....

Heather Jan 06, 2004 06:54 AM

I can't find any stone dust besides lime stone in my area. I've been searching for weeks now. I did find clay though. Now If I mixed 50 % Clay to 25% Soil and 25 % sand, would the compact enough for them to burrow? I don't want to have it constantly soaking so I'm thinking about it compacting enough while dry.... Anyway, How's this sound???

maybe a geologist could tell you how a mix layout on paper would work, but i ain't no geologist : )

so mix it up and see! you just have to try different stuff and see what works for you. different areas have different availabilities, and different soils have different qualities. scroll down and read about my suggestion for a dirt laboratory, and make up your own, dig in it, let it dry, add water, goof around with it, and just see what works.
