waxy monkies coming- HELP

zoodude Jan 06, 2004 02:28 PM

I have 5 young waxy monkey frogs coming. I've been planning on using this enclosure. Any comments? Heat/light looks good. Water bowl on the floor is not too big. Plants and props are clean. I need substrate still... I was considering a large (1/2" ) gravel.

Do NOT use gravel. Here is a link to a great care sheet about Phyllomedusa species. Go there, it lists the proper substrate to use, as well as lighting, etc.

Thanks Whitney. Your tank needs some more branches, because they can't blim the sides to get to the basking spots. The ficus is fine, but some driftwood would be goo to, even grapewood, to allow the to reach the taller parts of the tank. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the suggestions, and great web site (I was already familiar with it). I will get some more branches in there asap, and I guess I will go with paper towel for substrate since I am not attempting to grow plants in the substrate. I have my concerns about your soil mixture; Gran Chaco has very hard packed dry soil, I'm afraid your mix is too loose and will retain too much moisture(I live in the south, and unlike most folks, I have to deal with too much humidity instead of too little). Not to say it isn't a good substrate recipe. Again thanks for the help, and sharing in my excitement.

Don't worry, I abandoned that soil type and added more bed a beast/peat to make it more compacted as you mentioned. I dhould change the pictures since i recently got a digital camera. Thanks

Derek-
I was just reviewing your website, and planning (way prematurely) to construct a rain chamber. You mention the Magnum 220, which I am familiar with (good choice btw). I use the 350 at work with carbon/floss, but not on any amphibians. The 350 comes with a choice of media... assuming the 220 has the same media options, which do you [plan to] use? All carbon, carbon/floss or micron cartridge?

Also, what age is sexual maturity with P. sauvagei? 2 years is my guess. Where can I learn more? There doesn't seem to be much out there (not that your site isn't full of knowledge). Any books? Articles? CD-roms?

BTW, I added a few sizable pieces of cork bark to the previously posted enclosure. It should be climbable now.

Thanks
