Feeding Questions

herpaddict77 Jan 06, 2004 02:49 PM

Ok, My 5 month old Vieled eats a steady diet of crickets at the monent, and a the ocasional cucumber chunks. Right now he recieves 5 or so crickets every other day dusted with a chameleon supplement and has a bowl of cucumber and collered greens always available. This is my first chameleon and I'm wondering if any other foods should be offered, and what to use for the ocasional treat. I tried meal worms, but he didn't seem interested. If anyone thinks I should make any changes in his diet (Quantity, selection, or otherwise.) I'm a bit unsure of how much he should be eating too. So if anyone has any help they can offer i would really appreciate it. Thanks.

5 crickets every other day seems alittle low. I would also not dust the crickets every time you feed. 2-3 times a week should be fine. I would definatly give him more crickets, i would at least double his crickets.

You can also try bannana, strawberries, and silkworms. As a snack you can try roaches, waxworms, fruit flys, and hornworms.

Hi -
what are you feeding your crickets? They are your best bet for your cham's nutrition - they are what they eat. Be sure to offer them fresh veggies, fruit and a quality dry gutload. (make your own: www.adcham.com/html/husbandry/gutload.html or buy:www.cricketfood.com/default.php/cPath/21?osCsid=fa9baf9b0c180fc2e1e8962ae42881a4

Cukes are fine for the moisture they provide but they don't offer a whole lot nutritionally. As for treats an occasional waxworm is fine. You can also offer silkworms.

A couple of times a week should be fine. Too much D3 and vitamin A can be toxic
