How big of a female do I need to be safe - Keith and crew....?

agalinis Jan 06, 2004 03:03 PM

Yeah...Hillson whined like a little girl for selling that one - but he's got his share of screamers so don't feel sorry for him. LOL

I mean this is a large, 68" or so, 5.5 lb male that will probably be close to 6' and 6 lbs in another year. I've never bred snakes but I'm to too concerned with that because I've been around it and done other breeding with herps, but a large male Eastern...whew, how big a female do I need?

Hmmmm...I've got a nice Howie Sherman OBK female (Dare Co.) that's two now and has more speckling than in the pic below...!I'd trade her plus some cash - maybe - for a nice (but not perfect of course) wc or cb with locality data female that came from NE Florida or SE Georgia. Here she is at 1 year, the photo is also on Keith's site.

I know this isn't the "Classifieds" so no damm messages about that. Just asking the folks on here that I know to keep me in mind about a good-sized female to go with what will be close to a 6', 6 lb Eastern by next spring ('05).

P.S. Hillson...your large, young Eastern looks nice; maybe he'll be large enough to try and handle Augustus one day LOL.

Any ideas boys and girls?

-John

Size of the female depends on the temperment of the male in regards to other snakes. I know that sounds dumb talkin about Kings as they like to chow down on each other. Fact is most males are only interested in breeding in the spring and go off of food. If not then there wouldnt be too many Kings around would there. My NJ male is close to the size of the Big GA male you have and he mated with a 40" female. He was twice as thick and considerably longer but they made do. So I would just look for a female thats 40" and up. You are arent gonna find many GA locality animals around but N. Florida animals are available especially from dealers within Florida.
