question about water filter

Ninja_tortoise Jan 06, 2004 03:26 PM

i have a cat litter box as my water dragon's water dish. could i hook like, lets say, a ten gallon fish tank filter to it?
if i trimmed the tube so it fit?
or is this dangerous to the lizard?

is it possible, or just easier to clean him daily?

thanks.

definetly easier to dump the water out and fill it back up daily...filters are going to cost you money in carbon and filter bags ammonia and salmonella remover...and the repeller doesn't last long on the cheap ones...much easier to change the water daily or every second day...I truely only change the water when it becomes soiled or messy which is pretty much daily...LOL

you can always just use a water fall pump,it wont clean the water but it moves it around and your dragon will probly react better to moving water.

I know some animals will not drink water unless its moving or sprayed on the side of the cage.

i took my old water fall cut it in half and took a litter pan and hot glued the water fall to it and attached a pump to it and he has a big pond and a water fall

now i know some people here are going to say that cage isnt big enough but let me tell you this, this dragon was almost dead when i got it from being neglected so anything is better than the life he had before me. just be glad he's recovering and happy,i do take him out daily for feeding and stuff so he's not cramped in it 24/7

I would recommend against those...they contain mercury, if broken could cause severe problems with yourself and your animal.

Mercury bulbs are also WAY to hot for that tank...you'll cook your dragon. The bulbs only come in 100W and 160W spot bulbs. Also they don't fit in normal light fixtures. So if there is pressure on the bottom of the bulb it is sure to explode.

Also if the bulb is placed on an angle...it will burn out twice as fast. These bulbs are usually used in zoo-type setups...and should never be used as a primary heat/light/uvb source.

If you want a bulb buy the 5.0 or the 8.0 reptiglo or zoo med.

Much safer.
