tail rattling?

kleen00 Jan 06, 2004 04:36 PM

I'm new to corns, and just got a 1yr old albino from a friend. Today when I fed him, as he was sucking the mouse down, his tail started going crazy like a rattlesnake. Is that normal?

yeah i think it normal. my to hatchlngs do it. if he starts doing it again just leave him alone and let him finish his meal you dont want to stress him out. in my opinion he just saying you better not touch my mouse or ill bite you.

Yep, that's totally normal. Mine does it too...usually when I'm watching him eat and lean a little too close. When they're eating, they're defense (striking) is gone, so that's the next best option for them...if he starts doing that, just back off a little and let him enjoy his meal.

yesterday my snake was out chillin in his tank next to his hide and i opened it to let him out. well he must have been sleeping and i startled him. he went into defensive mode and his tail started vibrating, but right on his hide, which amplified it quite a bit and sounded like he was hiding a little chainsaw in there. scared the #$%@^! out of me. he hadn't done that very many times before, and he was calmed down after a few minutes, but whoa. i almost wet my pants. needless to say my girlfriend had a good laugh at my expense.

Our baby Okeetee did that for the first week we handled him! Isn’t it cute? “I’m a big rattler – don’t mess with me!” He’s maybe 18 inches long. Funny little guys!
