Need help... "unimpacting" gecko

coffey32 Jan 06, 2004 05:50 PM

How do I go about relieving my gecko who is most likely impacted. All of my geckos had always been fine in the calcium sand, but this one isn't. His feces looked like a ball of sand so I changed his substrate. He is now on paper towels. Would you recommend the green "turf" that is common for beardies? I have heard that panacur is good for increasing the appetite of leos. However, I wanted to ask the forum for help before I bought something that wouldn't help. Thank you!

I hear mineral oil, or castor oil sorta helps clear impactions (both are pretty good laxatives). Though I think impactions are often fatal. Might want to hear out what a vet has to say before doing anything though. I don't think you want to use panacur, since your gecko doesn't have worms, and it'll put unneeded stress on him/her (it is sorta toxic). If your gecko does some how clear the impaction, you'll want to put it on some sort of antibiotic for a bit since those sand bits probably tore up its GI tract a bit, but again, vet visit is a must.
