Beardie Digging

beardiekid14 Jan 06, 2004 06:10 PM

I have a female beardie who is about 18 months old who keeps digging. I did not think it was breeding season at the moment but she has dug a huge hole of sand in her cage. She is a housed with a male and another female. Please tell me is this normal, or is she about to lay? If so what should i do?

Thanks,
Newbie

Remove the male. He should NEVER be housed 24/7 with females. You'll have to set up a laying box, and I'd suggest freezing the eggs as the most humane way of disposal.

Provide a nest box for her to lay in. DON'T put the eggs in the freezer unless they are yellow or misshapen. There are many top beardie breeders that can help you through the incubation process if you choose to hatch these eggs. I personally would be willing to come by & pick them up from you for me to hatch if you lived close by. Many other herpers would do the same. I urge you to save these babies if the eggs are fertile!
