Story and Question

herperboy Jan 06, 2004 06:30 PM

I recently acquired a five to six year old Eastern Egyptian uro.(U. aegiptius microlepis) I am not sure if she was wc or cb but has been in captivity for at least five years and is fine. I got her from a that I know and trustthat used to breed malis. He was not sure what species she was so he just stuck her in with his breeding colony. When he put the colony up for sale he was selling her seperately. I jumped on the oppurtunity and got her for a bearded dragon of mine. She is eleven inches long and about 264g When i got her i asked if she had always been that fat he said yes, ever since he got her. She is very active and eats greens crickets(1-3weekly) and pellets.
So my question is since she had always been this fat do you think it will cause health problems?

Hello,

The weight sounds okay. My female microlepis is almost 20" long an weighs roughly 650g.

Although some Egyptians do not get big, 11" is very small for a 6year old Egyptian. Would you be able to post a picture?

Hugh

I don't have uros so I can't answer the question, but what a cool uro picture! I just lurk on the forum because I think uros are cool.

Sounds like she is in a good range.
5 years old is questionable.
I have 2 year old animals that are 16" + & 600-700 grams.
Both of these are captive bred.
As far as the other pst about 3 foot Egyptians......That would really be a exceptional animal...not the rule.
