What age do you usually start having to provide a laying box? I have two females in a 20 gal long, and they're estimated to be almost ten months, I adopted them at six. That was what the shelter estimated them at, there's no real good record because they were an abuse case, you know how that works. I keep them on paper towel, so they really don't have a chance to dig, but I have sphagnum moss in the humid hide, and some days I'll come home and they've kicked most of it out of the hide, almost as if just to laugh at me when I have to clean it all up. (They like to do things to annoy me, like poop on top of the hide so I have to wash it, etc.)

you won't need a laying box until they have been introduced to a male.
They can produce eggs sometimes without breeding, but they will be infertile so there isn't really much sense in saving them.

I know they won't be fertile, but they'll still lay them. I was under the impression they still need some medium to dig and lay in, however. No, I don't have reecent pictures...

if they had something to lay in they probably would use it
but I wouldn't bother with it since the eggs are no good anyways.
