Colour Change WIth Age

FatAl Jan 06, 2004 11:31 PM

I was just wondering how much a Gecko can change in colour as they age? Is there somewhere that i can see comparison pictures of a hatchling leopard Gecko and the same Leopard Gecko as an Adult?

I was told that most hatchlings are born with black bands and as they age the bands turn into spots. Is this True? Also is it true that a gecko can show no signs of carrot-tail as a hatchling and then actually be a carrot-tail as an adult? Because i have seen some hatchlings with Carrot-tails evident.

Leos change a lot from babies to adults. Here is a picture of a snow baby at 12 days old.

Here’s the same one at about 6 months old.

The babies are born with dark bands but they don’t always turn into spots. Some animals bands completely fade away resulting in super hypos. Carrot-tails as babies look very similar to a normal baby. But as they grow the bands fade and the carrot-tail comes in. This is why most breeders who work with carrot-tail, tangerines etc. wait until they are about 5 months old before they sell them. They want to see their adult coloration.
