Can someone indentify what kind of corn I own =)

bouncyjulia Jan 07, 2004 12:14 AM

Can anyone tell me what kind this guy is? When I bought it at the pet store they told me it was an Amel, which I have no idea what that is.

Even if this guys just a normal, my feelings won't be hurt. I just want to know how to classify him. Thanks for your help and thanks for being such a friendly community!!

Based on the very red sadles and red undertone with rather black around the saddles I would say a very nice Okeetee. That is a locality of the normal morph.

seeing your post thought i'd correct the pet shop's mistake. yes you did get a very good looking normal...and no it's not an amel. seeing as you posted that you have no idea what an amel is i am posting a pic of mine. hope it helps...

Maybe you should educate the people at your pet shop because that is not an amel, LOL. That is a nice normal you have. Amel is short for amelenistic which is a form of albino. Amels have no black on them and have red eyes as you can see in the picture of above post. Normals are the normal wild colors you would find if you were to look for wild corns in their natural habitat. Normals can be a variable in color as any other morph and as beautiful.
I am glad to hear that you would not be upset if told you had a normal. Some people get offended when told that their 'pride and joy' is not some 'special' morph but just a normal. I personally have aroung 9 normals in my collection and I like them as much as I do the designer morphs.
Good luck with your new baby and enjoy.

Here is a great web site to go to that will give you a lot of information on the different morphs and genetics of the corn snake.

I can't believe they said it was Amel! LOL Amels have NO black, and you'd think a pet store that sells snakes should know that. Could be that your baby is Het-for Amel, which would mean it looks normal, but if you breed it to an amel, or another het-amel, you'd get amel babies. I have 4 normals, all are het for amel(no black) and anery(no red), but I think they're some of my prettiest babies. You'll enjoy watching when the yellows and oranges really start coming in...I bet that baby is ganna be a beauty!

I own 11 different kinds of corns, the best I can tell, yours matches my normal and is in no way close to the Okeetee.
If you go to [bleep].com and look at his pictures, he has about every version possible.
Hope that helps.

Her snake also resembles my normals, which I can't call Okeetee because I have no idea what their Snow mom is hiding, even though their dad was an Okeetee. Hence, Okeetee-ish looking babies. What I mean by Okeetee-ish, is that they have the red on orange ground, as opposed to miami's who have the red on silvery-tan ground. Didn't say she had an Okeetee, said she had and Okeetee-ish Normal.

ugadog
have you ever seen hatchling okeetees?
There are some that look very similar to that as hatchlings. Look at the black border around the saddles.
that snake does have an Okeeteeish look as Dianne mentioned.

Thanks for your help!! I figured it was a normal. And don't worry I'm not going to get offended. The reason I bought it was because I thought it was absolutely gorgeous, and I still do.

I just wanted to confirm what to call him when someone asks.

Thanks again for all your help! Your such a friendly community!!
