My Mali actually drank water!

DeadFrog Jan 07, 2004 02:22 AM

I am wintering them and I thought they'd be a little dehydrated, so I soaked them for a few minutes, and Gwen drank water! I was shocked. I am not supposed to wake them, but she never has the appetite to store up enough water. I tried everything, don't even ask, lol.

Both my Saharans have had a drink during soaking at least once. She was shedding and he was having an acclimation crisis, so I was soaking them both at least once a week. Both of them drank. Now I soak them once every 3-4 weeks and once in a while one will drink. I read on Doug Dix's site, though, that Saharans are more likely to drink water than other species, though, so maybe that's all it is.

Yeah but after having them for a year it was pretty cool to see, lol. I usually give them fairly moist food.

My mali drank a few times the first week I had it and if I leave a small water bowl in with it, I sometimes I catch it taking a sip. I did expect it to drank much more though when I first got it after what it had gone through with being shipped and arriving late.

Rocky, my Saharan, used to drink regularly (tylerjames.net/video/drinking.wmv) but lately I haven't been leaving water in his cage. of my three, he's the only one that would and I don't soak any of them. Not to say it isn't an acceptable practice, just that their eating habits are good, they gain or maintain weight, and are active, so no need. Always learning new things by watching them.
