Hovabator turbofan model please read

karosenberg Jan 07, 2004 08:25 AM

I am getting mixed reviews about the turbo fan model. I will be incubating leo eggs. I emailed LLL-where I bought the hovabator- and I have posted his reply below. Please reply with any info you have about personal use of the turbofan model. I hope to be getting eggs within the next two months or so. Thank you for your help. LLL:
Katherine,

The hovabators are the number one used incubator for reptiles. The turbo fan
will take more attention. It is more accurate than the cheaper model, but you
need to make sure to keep your humidity accurate, since there is a fan
circulating air. Otherwise, it is an ideal incubator, and a tad more accurate
than
the model without the fan. Hope this helps

Cordially,
Scott Wesley

Further down the page you posted the same inquiry and from what responces you recieved there, i wouldn't use this particular incubator if theres even a small chance that it could kill the eggs.

If you can figure out how to disconnect the fan than i would use it. I don't know anything about how to do that, sorry, can't help out but hopefully someone else will be able to tell you.

i have not used the turbo fan but everyone i talked to about that one said , it will dry out your eggs...
as far as i know the turbo fan model is that same unit just just a fan so i cant see how a fan would make it more accurate, at least temps go. you are going to be having to check your hobovator frequently anywho, they are heated using a wafer thermostat which changes as the ambient temps change in the room, and as far as im concerned a digital temp gun is a much when using hobovators...
they really dont work on a true thermostat i would say its a heat wafer more than a thermostat, but regardless you will have no need for the turbo fan model.. if anything the only thing it will do is cause you hearache......

here is the bean famrs website.....
incubator supplies area....

"Hova-Bator Thermal Air Flow Incubator

Still the best inexpensive small incubator. 18" x 18"x 7.5", 110V, 25.3 Watt. NOTE: We do not carry the Turbo Fan model because it has a tendency to dry out reptile eggs."

this was a quote from their website

i think for poltry eggs the fan model might be better because of the hard shell, but reptiles eggs considering they have a touch leathery shell would dry out too mich with a fan on them all the time....

It will cause more harm than good, as it dries out the incubator and thus the eggs. Leopard gecko eggs are very hardy and easy to hatch. Heck, I used to incubate my eggs in deli cups on a shelf in my bedroom! You do not need the fan, trust me!

Kathrine,
Form your message I'm assuming you already bought the fan model. I agree with Kelli on this they can and will create an environment where your eggs will dehydrate. If you email me, I can tell you how to disconnect the fan.
