Erowen has a Soft lump on her 'eyebrow'

ecb Jan 07, 2004 10:45 AM

it appears to be a fluid filled cyst of sorts, and I M freaking out. I did not notice anything wrong with her other than her weak, flacid state when we got home from vacation, then last night I saw this bump, i was able to touch it (she did not flinch much, and did not growl at me) and it is soft and fluid filled, like a water blister from shoes, not like a zit, and it is Big for her, if it was on my daughters face it would be walnut sized, but since it is on erowen it is about half a split pea sized.

I hope nothing ELSE bad happened to her while I was gone

My Vet is able to fit me in either at 3:00 today (not gonna work, with work AND kids) or at 6:50 tonight (Oh YEAH, you becha) so I M leaving work a little early, to get the kids and her, and running up there (will most likely get a Fuzzy rat for my Daughters sanke while we are in that neighborhood)

anyone ever seen this kinda thing?? It is not small, Puckered tight and hard like the Lump that was on Lady Belle (who died)
nor is it mirrored on the other side

What worries me most is she has fallen off her sleeping stick a couple times, into her feed dish. It looks funy, but it might be a sign of a brain problem, or an inner ear problem

man oh man being a Nurse sucks sometimes

Given that you describe Erowen having fallen several times, hopefully it is little more than a cyst that will reduce with time.

Although my experience with MHD's is limited, I previously kept water dragons (another agamid) for some years. Unfortunately, a "raised and puckered" area covers a lot of ground. I have seen sub-dermal fungus appear this way, as well as fluid-filled cysts, and in the case of one my current dragons, a swollen appendage that is due to calcification from a previous break. (Zoe only has 3 toes on one of her limbs).

Your vet may be unable to positively identify it without a scraping, biopsy, or fluid draw - but obviously doing so, will determine whether or not Erowen will require an anti-fungal, or an antibiotic.

I have my fingers crossed that it is just a fluid filled bump on the noggin.

said it is an abcess, and he will sedate her a bit, numb t up, and open it, clean it out, and he will let me care for her at home after he is done
I M very worried, his office does not open until 8:30, so I cannot call to see if she is ok yet
oh well, I have to trust SOMEONE, and I trust him a LOT more than that famous Vet guy we went to first

She is done, and she is ok
He is sending the stuff that came out off to the lab, to be sure it is nothing I need to worry about with the kids
and I can pick her up tonight (which I WILL DO)
I cannot wait to see her

I'm really glad to hear that it has been taken care of. With him having it checked you will also know if she needs antibiotics or anything else.

What a relief!

Vet gave her a Shot of Baytril, and I M to start putting a vet version of Tripple Antibiotic (I forget the Trade name, but i recognize the ingredients) tomorrow (and not before, they were firm on this)
Her upper lid seems droopy on the eye that was operated on (there might be some packing in there that needs be expelled), I M hoping it will be ok
I put her on the thicker branch that she has staked out as hers, and she bairly moved all night (although she did change direction she was facing at one point) but did not climb higher or down off it. She rested her chin on the branch at one point, but had her head raised most of the night (I did not get much sleep last night)
I plan to offer her Nightcrawlers on her branch if she does not come down by later tonight
The vet is not in until Monday again, so I cannot ask him these questions directly. But the office staff is talking to me
*Have I told you how much I LIKE this Vet?*
They did a free Look at the Fecal, and saw NO parasites, or eggs

I don't think there's a better feeling than to find a vet you can have that kind of confidence in. I am really happy for you in that regard. It sounds like your little lady is going to do just fine. She should be feeling much better.
