How often should Borneos poop?

snaker Jan 07, 2004 11:20 AM

I obtained a yearling borneo in Sept and she is my first ever curtis. She pooped a couple weeks after I got her so I know she can do it, I know they can go for months so I am not worried yet. She has been feeding regularly and growing and has had a couple problem-free sheds. I have good temps, humidity, a couple moist hides and a water bowl big enough for soaks which she does on her own at least weekly. She appears in great health so I am not concerned at this point but wonder what is normal and when to get concerned and what to do about it at that point. Oh also, I have been putting her in the tub with warm water to swim around about every week or so. Any other suggestions?

Hey,
It is not a matter of should, but when? They can go for long periods with out pooping (evacuations), but should go at least once every 4-6 weeks. Some go without pooping for even longer. Just make sure that he or she, is getting plenty of water and is hydrating after each meal. And always keep fresh water when servicing the cage as they will almost always drink from a freshly filled water bowl and not one that is stagnant and warm.

Warm soaks and or baths can help expedite the pooping process, so it is a good idea to soak them at least once a week if you've got the time to soak him/her. They love it. Also, you might want to keep a large enough water bowl in the rubbermaid, or what ever enclosure you are using to allow them to completely soak at will. Just be sure to change out the water and completed disinfect the water dish with bleach each time the defecate in it. Other wise don't freak out if they don't go for long periods, it is just their way.
