Turns out the suppossed 49 footer is really a mere 21 ft. or so, according to Reuters at least. A photographer from Reuters actually brought a measuring tape with him when he visited the snake, so it seems our dreams of a 50 ft. monster are smashed...here's the article.

I can admit it -- I got taken by this story. I never thought the snake was as big as was reported, but I certainly thought it would wind up over 30 feet long. And I'm not the only one on this forum who thought that. So we don't have a record after all. I bet there's a 30-footer out there in the jungle somewhere, but I wouldn't want to walk up on her alone!

too bad....the only retic i had died in convulsions back in 77..my wife freaked out! i was at work...anyway it was about 5 feet...billy.
