Tip of my Chams tail turining brown?

ChicoB Jan 07, 2004 12:23 PM

Hey all! The very tip of my Veileds tail is turning brown and seems to be thinner than it was. Toka is 8 mos old and eats everyday gutloaded crix. Once a week i supplement with Reptivite and he has a mercury vapor bulb and a huge Grape Ivy plant that he lives on and eats. I have a himidifyer that comes on 8 times over 24 hours for 15 mins at a time. Is it possibly getting too humid in his screen cage? 60-90% humidtiy thruout the day. Im thinking i should put some neosporin on the tip of his tail. If anyone has ideas on correcting this problem i would like to know. Thank you much

It could be that he had an area of skin that didnt shed right and could have constricted the tip while it grew. It sounds to me like the tip might be dead but I would check with others first. Even so it shouldnt cause and lasting harm for your chameleon.

Just my 2cents

Sounds like the tip was injured or had a localized infection. It may very well drop off and heal. It's a good idea to put an antibacterial ointment (Polysporin or triple antibiotic) on it and watch for spread up the tail.
