Update on my spurred tortoise

mikey2231 Jan 07, 2004 01:58 PM

My tortoise is still atcing the same. when he walks he looks like he has the hicups when he moves his head, and then i hear the churp and a kind of poping noise. he only does it when he's awake, not when he's sleeping. i was holding him today and i had my thumb underneath him. he would stick his head all they way out to take a deep breath like he couldn't breathe. and i could feel the underside of his shell moving when he would breathe. he did this about three times in 5 min. i think i do need to get him to the vet. but i have no clue how much it would cost. maybe i could make payments. any help would be very helpful. Thanks.

Mike.

Today i had him in a small tub of water. he was in there for about 5 min, drinking and walking around. then when i put him back in the cage he went to the bathroom, but what came out was like a white clumpy stuff. any idead what this is?

That is a sure sign of dehydration. That fact that it is passing urates is good. I'd suggest a vet visit is in order and soak the little guy daily. Also make sure to keep him warm.
