OT, Stray dog update...

Christyj Jan 07, 2004 02:02 PM

The owners found us. They went up to the shelter that I had called and got our phone number. Her name is Lucy, she was 10 yrs old and took off on New Years Eve. She is VERY scared of fireworks (loud noises). She came from 2 subdivisions and two fields away!!
The family has 2 teens and a 7 year old Downs Syndrome child that missed her very much.
She never barked while here, but went wooooooooooooooo...lol If she wanted out, was thirsty, hungry..wooooooooooooo. Too funny.
The family gave me a gift certificate to Red Lobster (I'm there!!!) and a Thank You card that said "To Lucy's OTHER loving family". I told them if they ever needed to go on vacation etc. Bring her on back.
(sniff-sniff) Good-bye Lucy

Sorry boys, girls joke!

Awesome story! I love happy endings, but she (Lucy) really had a win, win situation. Home or with you she would have a great life. It is funny my Lucy is terrified of the fireworks too. She hides in the closet.

Aww it ended good anyway. If you didn't get to keep her at least she came from a loving home that was missing her. I know I was crushed, and could not sleep when my dog went missing. We called the pound, called the police, put up signs all over, and even the people that pick up animals that get hit or are found dead. No one had seen her and she never came back to us. She definitely was picked up, and taken. She was a small beautiful pure bred [bleep]zue. Sorry you didn't get to keep her, but I'm also glad those people can sleep at night with their pet back. She sure was a beautiful dog.

Your right. I did a search to see if I had it right too, and got hits on sites that spelled it the way I did in the post above. Wrong LOL Go figure, guess you can't depend on that way to figure out the proper spelling of a word

I know most missing pets don't turn out happily, but for our Lobo it did, as with Lucy.

About six years ago when I had left for college, our family dog of several years went missing in my small hometown. We couldn't figure out what happened - he'd never done such a thing. Finally, we just decided someone hit him or picked him up.

Almost two years later, my sister went to her boyfriend's house for the first time - a 20 minute drive from my mom's house. Lo and behold -- there was our dog! Turns out he had ended up in some fields around this guy's house and had befriended an oil well worker. Her boyfriend's family had eventually taken him in, taken him to the vet and continued his meds for millions of allergies, etc.

We just couldn't take him back after he'd been there for so long - and he was so happy being back out in the country.

We were very lucky -- and so is Lucy's family -- that caring people ended up with our dog. It's the next best thing to having him yourself!

It was sad to leave him again, though!

I am so happy that there are people like you. Someone attempted to breakin to our house a couple of days ago. When they weren't able to get in so they went to our garage. Wendy(Lab) and Torri(Boxer) stopped them but they left the door open or Torri ran after them too fast and didn't give them a chance to close it. Either way Torri was missing all night long. The worst thing was the thought of her being out in the freezing weather- I could not sleep that night. Thank God someone saw her and she got picked up. They found her almost a mile away from home! We were so happy to see her when we picked her up at the island's adoption center! Her lil nub of a tail was wagging so hard her whole body shook! I'm sure that the family really apriciated what you did for them and their pet.

Glad her family found her. My dog went out running around the other night when my sister tripped and dropped the leash, then chased after her. When we finally found her, she was strutting up the side walk on her way home (silly, silly dog).
