RIP my little friend

alabastard Jan 07, 2004 02:51 PM

I just lost my sweet young Guyanan girl. She was found dead in her tank last night, tiny lump opf a mouse now rotting inside her - the smell tipped me off, else I might not have noticed, as she was just coiled as she usually does in sleep.

I bought her knowing she likely had parasites, as she was captive born but her parents were wild caught, gorgeous too. We treated her with the help of Rob at RJ's Exotics and the parasites were soon gone and she was much more active and slowly gaining weight and eating again, though I was feeding her small prey to be safe, but perhaps the damage was already too much and her insides devastated. I am rather devastated, as this girl was special to me, as all my snakes are, but she was truly special, the photo says it all. Out of two mean parents, she was as as curious, unafraid, and friendly as could be, as well as being beyond beautiful, a great pet.

I have little hope of ever finding one like her again, but I will put it out there in case anyone might have something close. She was a Guyana Red Tail with a deep blood red laddertail and intensely purple sides embossed with a gorgeous pattern, and ink lined saddles, a great disposition too.

I'm no breeder, I keep my snakes as pets and enjoy them greatly, photograph and illustrate them too.

I'd love another sweet Boa, that gorgeous purple with red tail, and also would like a black/grey/silver boa, and so I keep my eye out, keep looking. There is always the White Plains show Saturday, perhaps I will get lucky. For once, I even have money to spare

She was all of that. I may never see one as nice as she was.

I like the names you have for your snakes. I've got a "Legless" and a Galadriel, starting an Elven naming tradition.

Another Lord of the Rings fan, eh? I'm working on the fellowship members as my theme.

Sure makes it easier to think of names!

It's always tough losing a pet. This reminds me of a recent loss of my own. A gorgeous guyana/suri? I got from a horrible horrible petshop. The first time i saw her i felt so bad for her I knew i had to rescue her. She was in the same ten gallon cage with another redtail, a small blood python, and a ball python. She was honestly one of the nicest i had ever seen, great symetrical patern, dripping with color...the works. I waited 2 weeks, hoping she'd eat for them, but knowing she wouldn't. She started showing signs of thinning out, so i gritted my teeth and paid 249.99 for the poor thing. I named her "lil shawnee" hehehe that got a lot of laughs outta my friends/family. Shawnee wouldnt eat for me, after letting her adjust for 2 weeks at my house. I decided to force her as she was beginning to worry me with her decreasing weight. This lasted for 1 month. 1 pinky once a week. Then shawnee started eating on her own, which made me so happy. However less than 2 weeks after eating 2 pinks on her own, she passed away. I had so much hope for her, and she fought valiantly, but lost the battle.

It's tough. You did give that snake a good hope for hat part of her life, it does count, and there is always the chance they will pull through.

I foudn mine in a similar manner, from a place that has great snakes but a less than great health record and not always the best help. However, her looks and great disposition made me buy her, and she was beginning to thrive after her treatment, then just died. She was still small, and likely there had been damage from the parasites.
