Hey I bought my zoo-med light fixture and light and while I was still at reptiledirect.com I bought some calcium w/d3... someone i heard back in the day said it was bad with them? why?? id hate to have to send it back or uhh something

You NEED to use a calcium supp.w/d3, unless your dragon is kept outdoors for most of the year. Vitamin d3 can be toxic or lethal(rat poison) in large doses. The doses required to cause such an effect are not even approached in the powder supplements available to hobbyists.

I agree you do need to supplement with Calcium w/D3, but I do not rec. doing it daily and don't coat your veggies with it, just use a pinch and sprinkle. High levels of vitamin D3 can cause hypervitaminosis D and lead to renal failure. I think we need to be cautious with supplements and not use them indiscriminately. I would have a calcium supplement with D3 and one without. I supplement my growing dragon daily with plain calcium carbonate (very cheap at health food store) and use a reptile vitamin supplement once a week and use the calcium w/D3 twice a week. I also have a MVB spot over the basking site(jury's still out on that baby) and a fluorescent fixture with a Repti-Sum 5.0 that is 9" from his basking site. ( Obviously, I am the one you read who was making disparaging remarks about D3 just kidding! I am kind of a renal function freak so I am conscious)
