Killed pinkies in an established group

kevmimcc Jan 07, 2004 05:27 PM

I have several groups of mice setup, but in this 1.2 group I found about 6 or 7 dead pinkies NOT EATEN simply dead along with the rest of them still alive (about 12 pinkies). Do you know what the problem is? This was not their first litter, they are established. One of the mothers was one of older two's young and I let her grow up to be part of the group to make it 1.2 so I thought maybe the newer mother might be the problem but she had perfect litters before this one. Please let me know so I can get this group back to production.
Thanks!

It is very possible that they were just stillborn and not killed since they were not eaten.

Well that is not the case because I always count the pinkies right after they are born and they were fine for a couple days and then they slowly started dying.

they are wild animals.. and are very unpredictable when it comes to how they deal with stress (from diet, people, temperatures, you name it)..

there are so many possible answers that its very hard to say what happened exactly..

if it keeps happening.. is be sure to not hold back and future breeders from any of the surviving babies.. bad mothers produce more bad mothers..
