How big do these guys really get? I have had rainbows and several ratsnakes, but I am thinking of another boa and I don't want 8 years to go by and not want to screw around with a huge snake. Is this a good choice or are there any others you all can think of. I would like to stay in the 6ft range.
I thank you all in advance
Shawn

Dumerils would be a good choice for a medium sized boa. The six foot mark is right around average. Some dumerils never reach this point, and others move on past into the 7-8' range. Even at 8' they are not a "huge" animal unless your used to colubrids, then by perspective, sure that might seem huge. Compare them to your run of the mill burmese, retics, rock pythons, etc. and they never come close to this. You will be able to stay within a 4' cage with adult dumerils if this helps you out. Take care!

I agree with PMB on all his points.
Just to add on..............Dumerils are really fun animals to own. Very different from a BCI in my opinion. If you can get a good one from a good breeder that doesn't have any problem eating.......You will be stoked on it. Babies can be fussy eaters at times. The girl I owned was somewhat fussy as a baby. But, as an adult.......She was a GREAT eater. Very fun and beautiful animals. I am still kicking myself for selling her. I will be getting another one someday.

She is going to be a hard one to replace. She was definitely one of the nicer dumerils out there. I bet you love hearing that huh? LOL, sorry, didn't mean to pour salt on the wound! Take care.
