I have two red eareds I got from some people who were mistreating them, I bought them a new tank and filter (which they didn't have at all before) UV lights and set them up. For a while they were fine but now one chases the other all over the place biting it. I believe they are both males, both about 5 inches. Is there anything I can do to stop them fighting besides splitting them up? cause I don't have space or money for another set-up

Not really. You could try separating them for a while and (take the more aggressive one out and leave the calmer one in the current environment.

After a week or two reintroduce the aggressive on and see what happens. If they continue to fight and you don't want to have two setups (which is completely understandable) I would find one of them a new home. You should separate them ASAP though because an aggressive slider can inflict some serious injuries to the a passive one.

Its probably just a terratorial thing but yea, my turtles do that to.. both males but ones 5 inches, the other is 7 inches. Funny though the smaller RES is the aggresser.

I think its just stages. Sometimes they are fine with each other but sometimes they bite each other. Might be a sign that they are hungry but from what Ive experienced, its not for me at least.. just gets them more energy to fight lol. I think let things play out and as long as nothing serious happens it should be ok. Turltes know how to back away if ones mouth is open ready to attack. Seperating them for short periods of time is not a problem either.. I kept my smaller RES in the "feeding tank" which is smaller, very clean since I wash right after I feed, and kept him there overnight to cool off since I don't see what goes on when I sleep.

What size tank are these 2 turtles in, and at 5 inches, and are the front claws on both turtles the same length?
