>>I understand that everyone starts out learning a lot. I was making a generalization and was not implying that everyone posts stupid questions. Also, you're correct in that books and caresheets are only part of learning. But some questions people post should be addressed either at the time of sale or prior to buying a herp. For instance, someone buys a snake and does not know the type of snake they're buying, hence the 'what type of cornsnake is this?' posts.
How often have you went into a pet store and asked someone working there what kind of snake they have on display, and they couldnt give you the right answer?
With all the morphs and hybrids out there, how is a beginner supposed to know exactly what he or she is getting?? I dont know how many times I have argued with someone in a pet store about the type of snake being mislabled. So I can see how a beginner could become confused.
>>As far as this forum being your only source of info, I'd recommend to use a wide range of corn snake info. Someone even pointed out in a below post that alot of beginner quesitons are being answered by beginners, and may not always be correct. At the very least, SOME dealers (not all) plus pet stores reading various threads could easily see that they need to provide customers with more service and info beyond just making the sale.
Again, I wouldnt take anything at face value I was told by a pet store! Too much incorrect or just downright bad info gets put out by them. I dont mind answering questions for "newbies", because we all had to start out somewhere. I would rather answer the same question 10 times vs. having someone not ask a question, and the snake suffers because of ignorance on the owners part.
I try to answer any questions I can and do it without offending anyone. Especially the new herpers. What really makes me mad is people replying to "newby" questions and being snide about it with the "gee, you didnt know that?, what a dumb@ss!" type of replies. Usually I overlook the immature responses, but some people arent as thick skinned and can be "put off" by these types of responses. This is not directed at anyone, just a generalization.
So for you beginners out there, the only dumb question is the one not asked!
>>As for offending me, nah...it takes a lot. I enjoy reading most of the posts here and will always be learning too. Sorry if I offended you or anyone else... I certainly did not mean it. In fact, it was not that long ago that this forum was clogged with people trolling and posting completely absurd things.
