Got a question about how juch water you have in your false bottom

rc_racer_007 Jan 07, 2004 08:41 PM

Hey yall, as most of ya know i have had my tank set up for about 6 months now with a flase bottom set up. My tank most always stays at 95% humidity. My Humidifier kicks on 3 minutes like 4 or 5 times a day. Plus i mist it manual once a day also and fill the broms with water.

I have water condensation on the glass liek a normal tank, but i have barely ever had any water build up in my false bottom. In the 6 months my tank has been running i have never had to drain the bottom, its never completely filled the bottom. Just spots of water here and there.

I know my tank is good, plants are doing good, forgs are fine. But does any one else have a situation like this were you have plenty of humidity but no water in the false bottom?

BTW if its needed, my substarte is set up like this.
PVC Spacers
Egg crate
Fiberglass mesh
pea gravel
fiberglass mesh
soil
frogs

At least in my tanks I have to add water as it evaporates. Not much, but a little each week or so to keep the water level int he pools right.

On my two setups, a 10 gallon and a 29 gallon I actually need to remove water about once a week after hand misting once a day. My stacking with the pvc spacers and eggcrate is exactly the same as yours, but there are low points in the tank where the frogs have access to a small pool of water. From when these pictures were taken I have decided to lower the water level as there really is no need for the deeper pools. There are glass tops with the only ventilation being the screened openings with the computer fans. These fans only run 5 minutes every 2 hours during the day, this really doesnt help on the fogging issue, but the humidity is perfect and the plants get enough fresh air. Right now there is about 2" of water in the bottom of each of these tanks, just about enough for the pumps to operate and for the frogs to get their feet wet through the java moss.
