Head scale question for Dean and any other Yellowtail Cribo owners/breeders

Keith Hillson Jan 07, 2004 10:54 PM

The male I have seems to have temporal scales that you can see skin in between. Usually those scales are pretty tight to almost just overlapping. Ive looked at pics and Ive seen one like it and it may be mine ??? Here is the eg. its a pic by Dean A. I circled th area m talking about. Also included is another fine shot by dean but this ones temporals seem to be normal. Maybe as they grow they seperate a little ??? Just wondering if its normal or a defect of some kind.

keith, i believe that these scales 'shift around' according to the particular snake's growth, overall weight, etc. and is perfectly normal. when full grown, a large yt will have a head practically the size of a midget football so you can see the need for expansion.......

Keith I would tend to agree with Dan on this...but I still have about 5 babies. Let me look at all of them and the adults and I will let you know if they are showing the same traits.

Actually it looks like it does at least what Im talking about. It looks like light gray or pinkish gray skin in between the larger scales just behind the eye. Ive seen some pics where you dont see any skin in between the scales .
