AUGHHHH! Pump problems!

Arklier Jan 07, 2004 11:02 PM

I'm having a lot of trouble with the pump in my water feature. The first one failed to work at all, and now the replacement is starting to make loud 'I'm gonna fail immanently' noises after a power failure last night.

What's a good brand of pump?

Can you please post some more specifics about your set-up, such as how high you are pumping the water, if there is a false bottom or screen between the gravel and substrate. With any pump that is making a straining noise, the problem would be that there is some sort of obstruction ( debris caught in the impeller ) or that the height that you are trying to get the water up is too much. Any pump should pretty much work given the right situation. In all my set-ups I made it fairly easy to remove and maintain the pumps ( cleaning out the filter ) and I have only had to do this once since I set up both the tanks, over 6 months ago. The current pumps that I use are a "Mini-Jet Pump", a "Micro-Jet Pump" and a "Fluval 1 Plus". I posted some pictures in reply to rc_racers post about the false bottoms if you want to check them out.

Sounds clogged up to me. Either use bigger rocks around it, or put it in a small plastic container with holes cut in it convered with screen.
