Merry Late Christmas to Me!

jordanm Jan 08, 2004 12:09 AM

Just came in this morning. Couldn't resist taking them out for a sec after they settled in to snap some quick shots. Neither of the pics came out very well cause this was basically my first time using my new cam, and they wouldn't stay still!! This is the male, I think I'm gonna name him beefcake. He's pretty, but lets just say i'll be getting use out of the gloves my mom bought me last year for atleast a few weeks.

And here is the female, Andrea. She's pretty tame I just couldn't her to stop wiggling! I think her and Kara's sqiggle are gonna have to have a wiggle off, cause shes got moves! I ended up just doing a quick peekaboo with her hide box, she didn't seem to mind a bit. Ignore the substrate, its what the breeder used so im gonna let thim keep it for a week or so and switch em over to paper towels.

Those are pretty cute snakes. I like blood pythons, one of the few snakes that almost look nicer when there babies (unlike carpets).

I was going to buy those pair, were they $250 shipped.I slept on it and that caused me to loose first choice. I was hoping that the person purchasing didnt come through with the money.I really don't need them but they were stunning. That camera doesn't do them justice at all.

Ethan,

I kinda lucked out I guess. I came in at five in the morning from a late night, and decided to check out the classifieds...dont ask me why? Basically emailed him and told him I would take them. Woke up the next morning and was like..what did I do, then I double checked the ad and was proud of myself! Otherwise I probably would have slept on it too and not gotten them. I wanted to get the black too but don't have the money. And yea the pics dont do them justice, like I said I just got a new camera and didnt really have time to set up lighting and stuff, this definately would have freaked them out too. He said the same parents will be producing more this summer so you can probably still get some nice ones, just email him..he's kinda hard to get to answer questions tho. I'm gonna try to pick up atleast another female from him.

Jordan --

Cute babies! You seem to really like the Borneo bloods -- are all of your short-tails Borneos?

Fox,
Yea for right now. I would have had five total, but the two babies that had RI I picked up in Nov have both passed. I'll probably get another female or two and then start trying to get some blacks, finances allowed of course.

Jordan,

Very sorry to hear about your loss!! Sounds like it was a pretty awful situation with those two babies. Good luck with your newest ones; I'm sure these will fare better.

Fox,
Thanks, I actually thought one of them would pull through, her health seemed to be improving consistantly and then she was just belly up one morning. Oh well live, learn, and buy from reputible breeders. I'm already barehand picking up the male after just two days...kinda surprised on that one i thought he would be a challenge. Hows your baby adjusting?

Hey,

Great to hear that the male is taming down so quickly! Not so with my baby -- he's still quite skittish, though I haven't handled him too much yet as I want him to be fully adjusted before I add in the stress of taming him down. I moved him into a much smaller sweaterbox with a smaller hide a couple of days ago, and he seems to like that better than the 20 gal (at least, he's using the hide in the sweaterbox instead of hiding under the substrate). I'm going to wait a bit for him to get comfortable there, then offer him another mouse... I don't plan to start handling him regularly until after he's fed a few times; as I said I don't want to stress him out.

Anyway, it's good to hear that your new ones are taming down and healthy! Good luck with them both,

Hey Jordan,
Sorry I didn't see this thread. They are absolutely stunning. Hope you have better luck with these guys too, just be sure to keep the heat/humidity up on them and stress them as little as possible. I think that stress if a big factor with nuvies and that in its self, can compromise their immune system, if they have a predisposition, just from traveling and the change of environment and travel temps.
