I use sifted bed-a-beast mixed with playsand. Roughly a 2:1 ratio.

But...I think my new girl I got is impacted. I didn't think that was what was wrong with her but I am pretty sure it is now.
That is the only thing in my tanks that she could have gotten impacted on....maybe going after a cricket that got inside there...I don't know.
I am thinking of switching. I tried the papertowels. But you have to wet them at least every singe night and if your moist hide is on the warm end then more. Or at least that has been my experience.
Good question though as there are so many opinions.

It seems to take longer to post. I don't like that.

I dont have a humidity box for my female. It will be a while before I breed her. Can I just make one when the time comes, or do I need to make one for her now so she can get used to it?

Thanks,
Jesse

The humide hides are too aid in shedding. Without them the Leo can't shed well and you can't just mist the tank like they tell you in most pet stores because leo's cannot have high humidty they can get respitory problems.
The hide will double as a laying box when you get ready to breed her. My leo's love their humide hides. They use them not only for shedding but for napping in during the day.
You can give her just a plastic dish with a hole cut in the side. I burn my sides with a lighter after cutting so there are no sharp edges.

I also use this for a substrate, dry of course.
