Well, I have tried every trick in the book to get her to eat
with the exception of sending her away for a couple of weeks
to a strange environment. My vet said yesterday that in light
of the new information over the past few months, she thinks this
would be very bad for Beanie because of her attachment to me.
For those of you who may be new to the forum, Beanie has not
eaten on her own in going on 8 months. This happened after
being gravid and having a hysterectomy.
The good news is that I am feeding everyday now between 30
and 80 cc's. I let her decide how much she wants. She is
shedding pretty normally now, snalting again (finally) and
has began using her water pan again for potty. She now has
an attitude, not a bad one, but an attitude. She finally
feels like she may be gaining some weight too. Digit's arrival
in October seemed to have a positive impact on her. In the
mornings she lays where she can watch him with her back legs
thrown over her tail. She is still a little jealous of him but
I think this has been a good thing.
I will continue to find a way to persuade her that eating on
her own is the best thing, but until then I think her and I have
a very good understanding and respect of each other.
I have a couple of phone numbers of some people who have dealt
somewhat with behavioral issues in birds. Maybe they can shed
some light on this. The vet is astounded that an Ig this age
would become so dependent.
Anyway, just thought I would update everyone.
Linda
