Slender Salamanders

Buglady Jan 08, 2004 01:58 PM

For many years, I have had a small population of slender salamanders living in a sheltered corner of my yard, between my house and the garage. I have tried to leave that area alone as much as possible, so as not to disturb their habitat.

We are now having work done on our home which puts the little guys at risk of being trampled. I have collected a few and put them in a small terrarium with a few good scoops of their native soil and leaf litter, with the intent of releasing them back in the yard in another week or so, when the work is done.

In the meantime, what can I feed them, and is there anything else I can do to keep them comfy until I can release them?

Pinhead size crickets and fruitflies are probably the most accessable food you can get for a caudate that size.
