Question regarding MAROON-ETFs

maxwells Jan 08, 2004 04:15 PM

How common/uncommon are these? I saw one in the photo gallery that was simply stunning. My husband has wanted a tree frog for some time, but I have resisted, focusing on my breeding d. tinctoruis’ and not wanting to get into another hobby. (Tincs are demanding little garbage disposals somedays!)

Then I saw that Maroon fella, and now I’m smitten! There was just something about them. As I mentioned, I currently have a number of PDF’s (and some eggs & tads! Woo hoo!), so I am pretty familiar with keeping frogs. I just know so little about breeders & availability for tree frogs. Any keepers/breeders that y’all know about?

thanks, in advance!

Well, unfortunately they are pretty hard to come by in the pet trade, although not completly unheard of, and the adults that are usually sold are generally wild caught. You may be able to find some, but don't get your hopes too far up. I don't reccommend WC animals to the average herper, but good luck on your quest.

Are you referring to A. Litodryas? Well, personally i have never seen anyone sell this, but i never really payed as much attention to the amphibian classifieds until recently.

Maybe you'd consider The "ruby-eyed" tree frog from Panama. They look almost identical to the maroon eyeds. I bought a few myself and i absolutely love them . I don't know if it is my imagination or fact, but i noticed that the ruby eyeds seem to have larger eyes than the regular RETFs. I keep both kinds, and that is what i get from my observations. It could be just the few individuals that i have.
