BLACK COACHWHIP IN SAN DIEGO.??

JSNYDER71 Jan 08, 2004 05:01 PM

HELLO, I RECENTLY CAUGHT A WHAT I BELEIVE IS A BLACK WESTERN COACHWIP. I HAVE BEEN HERPING FOR MANY YEARS IN SAN DIEGO AND NEVER SEEN ONE OF THESE.I HAVE ONLY HEARD ABOUT THEM .THIS SNAKE WAS APPROX. 5 FOOT AND LOOKED PHYSICALLY THE SAME AS THE COMMON REDS I SEE REGULARLY. THIS SNAKE DOES HAVE A FEW WHITE SPECKS AT THE NECK AREA JUST BELOW THE HEAD.BUT THATS IT ,ALL THE REST IS SOLID BLACK.IT WAS CAUGHT WITHIN 100 FOOT OF THE MEXICO BORDER.DOES ANYBODY HAVE A PHOTO OF THIS LOCALITY.IS THIS AS RARE AS I THINK IT IS.SOME PEOPLE MAY SAY IT IS A BLACK STRIPED RACER BUT IT ISNT. THE SNAKE WAS CAUGHT ON DEC 26 03 A DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS, IT WAS ABOUT 42 DEGREES AND FOUND UNDER TIN. ANY THOUGHTS ARE APPRECIATED,OR PHOTOS ... THANKS JASON SNYDER
